Bandits invade parish house, kidnap Catholic priest in Kaduna

From Daniel Attah, Kaduna

Some bandits in the early hours of Sunday invaded the St. Thomas Parish, Zaman Dabo Community, in the Zango- Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, and abducted it’s priest, Rev. Father Gabriel Ukeh.

The priest was said to have been abducted at the Catholic rectory by the bandits.

The Vicar General, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Kazah, disclosed this in a statement made available to The WHISTLER.

Rev. Kazah expressed the urgent need for prayers for the safe release of priest.

This was even as he condemned the alarming rate of kidnappings for ransom, emphasizing the vulnerability of innocent citizens in communities.

The cleric also urged the government to intensify security measures, particularly as the Sallah celebration approaches.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration with security agencies to ensure Father Ukeh’s swift and safe return, while also urging against vigilantism.

He said, “while we solicit for fervent prayers for his urgent and safe release, we equally condemn this act of incessant kidnappings for ransom of innocent and defenceless citizens of our communities, and we call upon the government to horn its security intelligence as we approach the celebration of Sallah.

“As we work with security operatives for his quick release, we wish to call on all to stay away from taking the laws into their hands. We will use every legitimate means to ensure that Fr. comes back to us safe and sound.

“Through the intercessions of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of Priests and Religious, may Jesus the crucified hearken to our prayers and hasten the unconditional release of His Priest and every other abducted person.”

The Kaduna State Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, ASP, said he would verify the information and provide further updates on the matter. ENDS…
